1. Choose a Race
Pick a race for your character, such as Human, Elf, Dwarf, or Tiefling. Your race determines some abilities, size, speed, and special traits.
Creating a character in Dungeons & Dragons is easy and fun! Here is a quick rundown of the steps:
Pick a race for your character, such as Human, Elf, Dwarf, or Tiefling. Your race determines some abilities, size, speed, and special traits.
Select a class like Fighter, Wizard, or Bard. Your class determines where your ability points should go, spells (if any), saving throws and your role in the party.
Assign numbers to your six abilities: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. These affect almost everything your character does. You can do this with several ways such as point buy or rolling for them.
Pick a background that fits the story of your character, such as Soldier, Sage, or Criminal. Backgrounds give additional skills, proficiencies, and roleplay flavor.
Decide what weapons, armor, and tools your character carries. Some of this comes from your class and background, some you choose yourself.
If your class uses magic, choose your starting spells. How many spell slots and cantrips you get depend on your class and how many spells you learn depend on your spellcasting modifier.
Give your character a name, describe their personality traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws. This helps you roleplay them in your campaign.
Check your hit points, armor class, and make sure your character sheet is ready. Now your character is ready for adventure!
